Infographic: An Introduction to Gut Health

Digestive health is an essential part of our well-being. Our intestines contain trillions of microbes, which includes both good bacteria and bad bacteria. While each of us has a unique gut microbiome, certain combinations of bacteria are expected to be found in healthy individuals. Our microbial mix is affected by age, diet, genes, environment and medications. Each of us has a digestive tract teeming with trillions of good bacteria that help us digest food and properly absorb nutrients, as well as increase our immunity to harmful substances that can cause disease. The balance of bacteria in our gut can be negatively affected by a number of factors, including diet, stress and lack of sleep, to name a few. If we don’t eat well or we are overstressed, we may be disrupting the balance of our good and bad bacteria, and this can allow pathogens to wreak havoc on our body, damaging our intestines and causing abdominal discomfort while reducing our overall immunity. The following infographic, The Gut Health Guide: How to Identify Problems and Improve Your Digestion, is a helpful look into the world of gut health. It provides a brief overview of the causes of poor gut health, some symptoms, and offers several ways to improve gut health.
